Local Business The Malvern Bookshop Donates £5,000 to Bus Campaign

We are delighted to have received a donation of £5,000 towards our campaign to restore a regular bus service between Ross-on-Wye, Newent and Ledbury.

The Malvern Bookshop, based in Abbey Road, Great Malvern specialises in antiquarian and quality second-hand books. Although the bookshop is not directly on the route, proprietor Rosie Pothecary explained why the planned new bus service is important to her.

“Although The Malvern Bookshop is not on the route I and my family live near Ledbury and would love to use the Ledbury-Ross bus, it is especially important for my two boys who have a busy social life and a spirit of adventure and want to be independent.”

The planned new bus service will link Ledbury, Newent, Ross on Wye and surrounding villages with six buses a day each way, four on a Sunday. The service will restore regular public transport links between these communities which existed for more than 70 years, before being discontinued in February.

Buses4Us Treasurer Christine Howley said “We are so grateful for this donation. Not only does it bring us a step further to getting our buses back on the road, it also reminds us just how important good public transport is for local people. We would like to say a huge thank you to Rosie and the Malvern Bookshop.”

Buses4Us is a community action group working for better public transport in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. We have so far raised £120,000 with a further £70,000 required to reach our first funding milestone of £190,000. When we reach this target we will begin the process of selecting a bus company to run the proposed new service between Ledbury, Newent and Ross on Wye.
